I am surprised albeit sadly on the article “Bad Indian holiday” written by Shoban Saxena in “The Times of India” Mumbai on the page no. 17, dated the June 17th, 2007.
This is a classical example of a negative perception of a “glass is half empty” without acknowledging the positive views of the increasing number of the foreign tourists and the thousands of such visitors who have India their home! Reporting “where time stops” when the fact is that India is rocking and is truly vibrant.
Mentioning the lanes of Varanasi, as “funky gullies of Varanasi”, when actually these gullies take you to a memorable journey of peace and spiritualism and a cultural diversity unimaginable to a foreign tourist.
The millions who take a dip every day in the great rive Ganga die because it is “toxic”? This is ridiculous!
If some foreign women tourists get “nightmare” walking through the “army of thousands of men” on the street in India, we also get stunned by watching hundreds of vehicles on N J Turnpike, USA without a soul no the road or get a cultural shock looking at the couples kissing in the public places but we must understand and respect a country’s peculiar culture and ways before we visit
The holiday makers destination usually is not an urban metropolis but reasonably researched exotic places, adventure tours, the mystic Himalayas and enchanting hill stations, spiritual places for peace and happiness, wild life, emerald beaches, deserts and tropical paradise which is India and I am proud to be a part of it
A moderate adjustment is mandatory in an alien nation if you want to enjoy. Don’t expect a country to adjust with the few foreigners.
